This morning meeting was a few days before Halloween time, so we wanted to make it related to the holiday! Carly and I were in a second grade classroom and collaborated with our teacher to figure out a fun game for the kids. At first, we focused on the morning message. It involved a message on what to do for their do-now work, asked them what special they had that day and at what time where they could fill in the blank, and also asked them if they carved pumpkins yet so they could use tally marks which they were still getting used to. Our greeting involved the students saying hello to their neighbor in a scary voice which could not have turned out any cuter. The students were so interested in this greeting and some of them produced a tremendous scary voice! The game was the activity we were most excited about. After discussing pumpkins and reading about them for the past few days, we wanted to do a fun activity. The game we all discussed and decided on was pin the nose on the pumpkin. This game was a spin off of pin the tail on the donkey. We cut out black triangle noses for each of the students and put their fire drill numbers on them to figure out which nose belonged to who. Yet again, I do know I need to work on classroom management. It got so rowdy during morning meeting because only one student was able to go up at a time. All of the other students were cheering their classmates on and talking about how close they were in amazement. I kept asking them to do silent cheers and to be considerate because some students may need it to be quiet in order to concentrate or plan a strategy before being blindfolded. Other than that, the morning meeting went smoothly. But I was definitely overwhelmed when it started to get very loud.
